Punakha Winter Trek

This is a pleasant trek and not too taxing low altitude walk over the hills from Dechencholing to Punakha, and so is particularly suitable for the winter season.

Day 1   Arrive Paro and Thimphu

Arrive Paro in the morning, visit National Museum and Paro Dzong. Evening drive to Thimphu.

Overnight Thimphu   (L,D)

Day 2   Thimphu

Full day sightseeing Thimphu

Overnight Thimphu  (B,L,D).

Day 3  Thimphu-Dopshing Pang, Begin Trek  (17km, 5-6 hours)

Drive to Shong Pang to begin the trek. Ascend gradually to Sinchula, see Phajoding Monastery, Thinleygang village and Talo Monastery.

Overnight campsite   (B,L,D)

Day 4   Dopshing Pang-Choeten Ningpo (18km, 6-7 hours)

The trail to Choeten Ningpo descends gradually, passing through densely forested areas and rice fields.

Day 5    Choeten Ningpo-Kabesa/Punakha (5km, 1 hour): Trek Ends

Trek through villages for to the road, to meet transport to transfer to Punakha. Visit Khamsum Yuelay Namgyal Choeten.

Overnight Punakha   (B,L,D).

Day 6   Punakha-Paro

Visit Punakha Dzong and hike to Chimi Lhakhang.  Drive to Paro.

Overnight Paro    (B,L,D).

Day 7    Paro (Excursion to Taktshang)

Excursion to Taktshang, known as Tiger’s Nest.  This evening visit Drukgyel Dzong and Kyichu Lhakhang.

Overnight Paro  (B,L,D).

Day 8   Departure

Transfer to Paro Airport for departure flight.   (B)
